Stand By Me

Stand By Me
Stand By Me (1986)

"...I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

Plot Summery:
After the death of a friend, a writer recounts a boyhood journey. Popular, slow-paced, nostalgic coming-of-age drama about four 12-year-old boys' misadventures.

In a small, woodsy Oregon town, four friends - sensitive Gordie (Wil Wheaton), tough-guy Chris (River Phoenix), flamboyant Teddy (Corey Feldman), and scaredy-cat Vern (Jerry O'Connel) - are in search of a missing boy's body. Wanting to be heroes in each others' and their hometown's eyes, they set out on an unforgetable two day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tale tales, cuss 'cause it's cool, and band together when the going gets tough.

Stand By Me is a rare and special film about friendship and the indelible experinces of growing up. This film is considered a true gem by both adults and young teens for its strong characterizations, sensitive script. Filled with humor and suspense, it is based upon Stephen King's novella, "The Body", one of four stories from Different Seasons (which also includes the basis for the movies, Apt Pupil, and The Shawshank Redemption).
